Details

The Domaine Ritme Celler, in Catalan Bodega Ritmo, is the work of Albert Jané, a passionate winemaker. After a first wine project, the Celler Acustic, in a neighbouring appellation, he has been surveying the region of Tarragona, the Priorat appellation (DOQ), with its hundred-year-old vines and steep slopes, its arid soil and its terraces built of slate that are extremely difficult to cultivate. Seduced by these mythical landscapes, he created the Ritme Celler in 2010.

The Priorat region came back into the spotlight thanks to René Barbier, a Swiss winegrower, who in 1979 recognised the phenomenal potential of this terroir. This tiny appellation, encircled by steep mountains, then benefited from a very harmonious climate. The extreme topographical conditions required harvesting by hand and with the help of mules. The schistose clay soil forces the vines to penetrate deeply in order to hydrate, due to the very low rainfall. The result is an exceptional terroir and sturdy, tortuous hundred-year-old vines. The grape varieties are old stumps of Grenache (Garnacha) and Carignan (Carinena) from Pobleda, Bellmut or Porrera. Aged for 10 months in new oak barrels, the wines are neither filtered nor clarified, bringing reminders of undergrowth and light deposits.

Ritme is a very dense garnet. Elegant, it is traditionally worked, revealing in an intense way all the ancestral nuances of the terroir. Aromas of wild strawberries, ripe cherries and spices, combined with a syrupy side and a minerality reminiscent of the slate of the terraces. The tannins are fine. On the finish, the fruit becomes opulent and rich, reflecting the very essence of the vine, its schistous terroir and the powerful sunshine.

As a wine pairing, Ritme reveals its power with a veal shank, a lamb tagine with orange juice or a creamy polenta.

2016, Priorat DO «PLAER», Ritme Celler, Priorat, Spanien (80% Carignan, 20% Grenache, Ausbau während 10 Monaten im Barrique, 15% Alkohol). Leuchtendes Rubin, violette Reflexe. 18 vvPunkte (91/100)
