Situated slightly north of Langon, in the part of the Graves appellation bordering the Garonne River, the Château Respide-Médeville, whose vineyard dates back to the 18th century, was acquired by Christian Médeville in 1980. The latter, a famous winegrower from the Sauternes region of France, who has owned the Châteaux Gilette and Les Justices for several generations, has the reputation of being an aesthete and a perfectionist in every aspect of his work. Nicknamed "the antique dealer of Sauternes", he treats all his vines with the same care and love. Since the beginning of the 2000s, his daughter Julie has taken up the torch, running the family's three estates: Respide-Médeville en Graves, Gilette and Les Justices en Sauternes. Together with her husband, Xavier Gonet - of the Champagnes of the same name - they brought the different estates together under the name Vignobles Gonet-Médeville.
The terroir of Château Respide-Médeville consists of a gravelly bowl plunging magnificently into the Garonne. The 15 hectares are composed of Sauvignon, Sémillon and Muscadelle grapes for the white wines and Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the red wines. The work in the vineyard is carried out in reasoned fight, excluding any use of chemical products. The harvest is manual, orchestrated by Julie Médeville with a masterful hand: it lasts about two months, each grape variety being harvested at the right time and according to the owner's appreciation. Maturing takes place in barrels with a large proportion of new wood. The Graves blanc was awarded Michel Phaneuf's Grappe d'Or in 2008 and still has a great body and a fine bouquet. The red, is produced on the advice of the oenologist Olivier Degas and perfectly expresses the elegant and complex character of the Graves AOC. The result is very good, excellent even, without ostentation and modern. In the mouth, the citrus notes are typical, fine and discreet. It has a beautiful dark red colour and is well-structured. From year to year, the wines of Château Respide-Médeville keep the same quality standards, with an irreproachable regularity.
