The Château Tronquoy is one of the oldest crus in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Located in the center of the appellation, on the place called La Lande, the first vineyard plots date from the beginning of the 18th century with their acquisition by François Tronquoy. The construction of the elegant building followed soon after, under the direction of Victor Louis, an architect from Bordeaux. With its chartreuse made of blonde stone and its remarkable turrets whose delicate peaks protrude over the high peaks of the park, Château Tronquoy is the representation of Bordeaux refinement. After a slack period, the Château was bought in 1968 by Jean and Arlette Texier, who invested tirelessly for 40 years in order to restore the vineyard to its former glory. In 2003, recognition arrived with the designation of Cru Bourgeois Supérieur. In 2006, Mélissa Bouygues, Martin's wife, fell in love with the building. Martin and Olivier Bouygues had just acquired Château Montrose, next door to Tronquoy, so they also became the happy owners. Since 2022, Pierre Graffeuille, formerly with Léoville-Las-Cases, has been the manager and has made it one of the best crus bourgeois of Saint-Estèphe. At his side, Yves Delsol, is its director of operations. Between 2006 and 2016, 10 millions were invested in the modernization of the installations, including the construction of a new vat room, 16 thermo-regulated stainless steel vats and a huge cellar for maturing 500 barrels! Everything has been put in place to allow a magnificent Cru Bourgeois Supérieur to express the potential of an exceptional terroir.
The 27 hectare vineyard flourishes on deep gravel soil (up to 8m!) over clay. The gravel allows for efficient drainage while the clay retains water deep down to release it in times of drought. It is located 30 meters above the Gironde estuary, which brings coolness. The king grape variety of Château Tronquoy is Merlot (49%), unlike its neighbors, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon at 45%, the rest being Petit Verdot. The work in the vineyard avoids the use of weed killers and the vines have an average age of 25 to 30 years. The touch of Petit Verdot and the very light touch of Cabernet Franc bring freshness and aromatic finesse to Château Tronquoy-Lalande red. The pure fruit and power come from the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. On the nose, it has a beautiful expression of fruit, blackcurrant, licorice, resin and tobacco. On the palate, the fruit is round, the tannins are chiseled, the finish has a candied touch. From the point of view of ageing capacity, Château Tronquoy-Lalande has nothing to envy to its prestigious neighbors and perfectly deserves its place among them.

Kräftiges Rubin. Die Nase ist expressiv, ein Parfüm, sehr floral, mit feiner Würze, klarer Cassis- und Himbeerfrucht, einer feinen Mineralik, die mintschwingt, sehr komplex. Im Gaumen saftig und frisch, sehr gute Struktur, die Frucht ist knackig und auf den Punkt gereift. Im Abgang ist der Wein sehr frisch und (Verkostet im April 2022. Château Montrose) 91-93/100

2016, Tronquoy-Lalande, St-Estèphe, Bordeaux, Frankreich (58% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc) Rubinrot, jugendlicher Glanz. Anfangs in der Nase etwas verhaltener, kühler, steiniger anmutend als der Pomerol, braucht mehr Luft und profitiert von etwas Zeit in der Karaffe. Die Aromen erinnern an schwarze Johannisbeeren, Kirschen, Brombeeren, dazu kommen etwas Zedernholz sowie würzige Noten. Im Gaumen gradlinig, präzis, mittlerer bis kräftiger Körper, sehr feinkörniges Tannin, die Säure ist prägnant, verleiht dem Wein viel Frische und Trinkfluss, das hat viel Appellations-Charakter und ist dennoch bereits gut zugänglich. Langer, würziger, dunkelfruchtiger Abgang. Die Anti-These eines St-Estèphe-Weins, den man erst 20 Jahre im Keller vergessen muss, bevor er (vielleicht) zugänglich wird.
