Born from the brilliant idea of Pierre Lurton (Chairman and CEO of Cheval Blanc of the LVMH Group) to combine French know-how with the grandeur of the Andes Cordillera, the Domaine Cheval des Andes was created in 1999. Located north of Mendoza, in Lujan de Cuyo, on the fertile high altitude lands of Terrazas de los Andes, the estate was built and managed over the next twenty years by 4 musketeers: Roberto de la Mota, a great Argentinean oenologist, Nicolas Audebert (Rauzan-Ségla), Lorenzo Pasquini (Giscours) and Gérald Gabillet d'Angélus. At his side, since 2019, the administrator of Cheval des Andes is Hervé Birnie-Scott, an agricultural engineer and oenologist, who studied in Montpellier. At the foot of the Cordillera, in the middle of the almost century-old vines, a brand new stable, made of wood and glass, adds to the magic of the place, recalling the gaucho origins of the first Argentinian settlers.
The 50 hectares that make up the Cheval des Andes rest on a unique terroir, that of Las Compuertas, made up of a stony mixture of clay and silt. Shallow, the soils are permeable to the bad weather of altitude. 5 grape varieties are blended: the original Malbec, the Cabernet Sauvignon of Saint-Emilion, but also the Cabernet Franc, the Merlot and the Petit Verdot. Since 2019, the blend is only composed of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Respect for the environment is of course a priority: furrows dug along the vines bring the pure mountain water harvested in the manner of the producers of yesteryear. Meticulous care is given to the bunches of grapes, low yields, manual harvesting and state-of-the-art winemaking make Cheval des Andes a transatlantic monument. The wines are aged for 18 months in new oak barrels imported from France.
The reputation of Mendoza's powerful terroir and its Malbec vines over 80 years old attracted the owners of Cheval Blanc. The result was amazing from the very first vintages. A perfect harmony is created by the blend of Argentinean strength and French refinement, with the expression of each parcel. The Cheval des Andes wine is complex, elegant and fruity like its French cousin, but also intense and powerful.
Bright red, it lets the nose burst with black fruits and light woody notes. In the mouth, it is pulpy, dense and tonic. As a wine pairing, it will be ideal with game birds, wild boar stew, roasted red meat or aged goat's cheese.

Super Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Von Cheval Blanc geprägte Noten mit einem Hauch nach dunklen Beeren, Nuancen von Röstaromen und etwas Bitterschokolade. Wein ist sehr empfehlenswert. Kann gut noch einige Jahre im Keller gelagert werden.Rating - Review by Patrick

Im Gaumen mit viel Opulenz, einer ausladenden, reifen Frucht, die Gerbstoffe sind von höchster Güte, die Säure wirkt perfekt dosiert, der Wein hat enorm viel Kraft und bleibt doch hochelegant, hallt im Abgang minutenlang nach. Rouge grenat dense. Bouquet intense marqué par des notes de fruits mûres mais également frais, une sorte de paradoxe olfactif. Touche fumée. La mise en bouche est très explicite dans la mesure où elle démontre parfaitement ce que l'on cherche à atteindre : canaliser le côté chaleureux en le faisant cohabiter avec une fraîcheur de fruit et de la race. Le vin a de la tension, des tannins précis, juvéniles et une expression aromatique omniprésente, de la mise en bouche jusqu'en fin de bouche. Finale persistante. 2022-2036 96/100

Intensive, sehr komplexe Nase, dunkle Kirschen, Pflaumen, Blaubeeren, Rauch, Tabak, Lakritze, mit mehr Luft auch florale Noten, ein Gedicht. Der Gaumen ist kräftig, fruchtbetont, markante Struktur, üppiger Körper, das Holz ist perfekt eingebunden, trotz der Wucht wirkt der Wein nicht schwer, die Gerbstoffe sind von höchster Güte, eindrücklich wie Kraft, Dichte und Würze hier harmonieren. Endet ausgesprochen lang. Ein top Wein. Jetzt bis 2034+, 19 vvPunkte (96/100).Rating
