Domaine Pascale Rion-Delhautal in Vosne-Romanée

Located in the heart of Burgundy, in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Pascale Rion-Delhautal sincerely embodies the spirit of Burgundy’s family-run estates. Born from the legacy of the historic Daniel Rion estate, this young independent domaine is part of a deeply rooted local winegrowing tradition while asserting its own identity, built on authenticity, precision, and respect for living ecosystems.

After working for many years within the family estate, Pascale Rion-Delhautal chose to give a new dimension to her career by creating her own domaine following the retirement of her brothers. This transmission represents far more than a simple division of vineyards: it reflects the desire to continue a know-how handed down from generation to generation, with a personal and committed approach. Today, the domaine extends over around 4.30 hectares of vineyards, notably located in Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Prémeaux-Prissey, and Nuits-Saint-Georges.

The family character of the domaine lies at the very heart of its identity. Some parcels were planted by the family’s grandfathers, bearing witness to a direct link between past, present, and future. The vines, the youngest of which are already several decades old, come from the family’s own massal selection, a choice that reflects the domaine’s attachment to its plant heritage and to a winegrowing tradition based on transmission. Here, each parcel tells a story, and each vintage extends a patiently built legacy.

The domaine’s first vintage was 2022, a founding date that symbolizes the beginning of a human-scale adventure. This recent beginning in no way diminishes the experience gained over many years in both vineyard and cellar. On the contrary, it allows the domaine to rely on deep knowledge of the terroirs of the Côte de Nuits, guided by a clear vision: to produce wines that remain true to their origin, without artifice, and shaped by the pursuit of balance.

The work in the vineyard reflects this same commitment to authenticity. The domaine pays particular attention to soil life, regarded as the foundation of every high-quality expression of the grape. The rows are naturally grassed, and legumes are sown to enrich and diversify the plant cover. This approach is part of a nature-respecting philosophy, with the aim of moving toward organic farming. More than a technical direction, it is a commitment fully consistent with the domaine’s size and with an artisanal vision of the winegrower’s craft.

This high standard is also reflected in the monitoring of ripeness. Thanks to the limited size of the estate, each vineyard can be observed with great care and precision. The choice of harvest date is based on the search for the right level of ripeness, without excess, in order to preserve the aromatic freshness, tension, and natural elegance of Pinot Noir. The domaine does not seek over-ripeness, but rather the pure expression of fruit and terroir, in a style that is refined, precise, and balanced.

In the cellar, the same measured approach prevails. After rigorous sorting, the grapes are generally fully destemmed, with some trials involving whole clusters depending on the lots and vintages. Ageing lasts between 13 and 15 months in barrels, with a moderate proportion of new oak so as never to mask the identity of the wines. This search for precision and restraint gives rise to cuvées in which substance, freshness, and the personality of each appellation remain at the forefront.

Domaine Pascale Rion-Delhautal also stands out for its deeply human dimension. This independent venture remains above all a family story, in which the new generation is already finding its place. Pascale’s daughter, Annabelle, who is studying viticulture, is already involved in the life of the domaine, especially during harvest time. Her presence perfectly illustrates the spirit of transmission that drives the estate and further strengthens its family roots.

In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Pascale Rion-Delhautal therefore represents a discreet and sincere address, shaped by a demanding yet simple vision of wine: to respect the land, support the vine, listen to the vintage, and convey through every bottle the soul of a family-run and authentic domaine.
