Seen from the sky, the Domaine de Chevalier seems to be a haven of peace, a jealous secret, hidden in the middle of a vast forest. A few acres of vines already existed in the 18th century, producing wine under the name "Domaine de Chivaley". In 1865, Jean and Arnaud Ricard acquired the property, its meadows and vines in a small clearing surrounded by tall trees. They enlarged the vineyard land and built the current buildings. Between 1865 and 1983, when the Bernard family became owners, only three men worked for the success of Domaine de Chevalier: Jean Ricard, Gabriel Beaumartin and Claude Ricard, all of them for more than thirty years! And all having accumulated a wealth of knowledge about the vine and its secrets, which they passed on to each other with love and respect. In 1953, Claude Ricard had the estate classified as one of the Grands Crus classés of the Pessac-Léognan appellation and brought the wines to the international scene. After five years of transition, Olivier Bernard bought the property and is proud of the heritage handed down by the Ricard family, as well as the quality standards they have always claimed. In the meantime, he has - as he puts it - "prepared the ground for the new millennium", by clearing certain areas around the vines to protect them from frost (in very cold weather, the forest prevents temperatures from rising again), renovating, building and modernising the winery and wine-making facilities.
Olivier Bernard and his team have made motorcycling according to their criteria of exigency and humility: "The man is only a revealer, the terroir dominates everything...". Aware of human limits, he also notes that a more difficult terrain allows him to achieve exploits. He has noticed that extreme conditions and a great respect for the land often produce a great wine...
. Made up of fine white gravel soils mixed with black sand on a clayey-gravelly subsoil, the soil is efficiently drained. The daily work in the vineyard is carried out meticulously, in a way adapted to each parcel. The approach is fundamentally ecological, according to differentiated nutritional needs. Of the 45 hectares of the estate, 40 are made up of "red" grape varieties, essentially Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, very little Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc and 5 hectares are made up of "white" grape varieties, the emblematic Sauvignon and Sémillon.
One of the most appreciated dry white wines in the world, Domaine de Chevalier blanc is refined and classy. Its bouquet reveals notes of white flesh fruits and delicate flowers, with a more demanding mineral finish. On the palate, the contrast is striking: immediately unctuous and charming, it is greedy while offering the crunchiness of fruit and perfect freshness as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to fine fish.
Sheltered from the marked out paths and the media publicity, it is like the clearing on which it rests, illuminated by the sun's rays, but protected by a bosky bower of greenery: as excellent as the greatest wines of Bordeaux, without having the pretension of it.

Le bouquet du Domaine de Chevalier s'illustre par sa profondeur et son caractère filigrane qu'il révèle progressivement. Les notes de nectarines et d'écorces de mandarines s'allient à des parfums d'anis et de fleurs blanches. L'attaque légèrement crémeuse ouvre la voie à un vin élégant, linéaire et précis. Il s'illustre par une subtile puissance et par son harmonie entre vigueur et tension, mais il doit gagner en expression gustative. L’élevage y contribuera !

Noten von Nektarinen und Mandarinenschalen verbinden sich mit Aromen von Anis und weißen Blüten. Der leicht cremige Auftakt ebnet den Weg für einen eleganten, linearen und präzisen Wein. Er besticht durch eine subtile Kraft und die Harmonie zwischen Breite und Spannung, muss aber geschmacklich noch an Ausdruck gewinnen. Der Ausbau wird dazu beitragen!

Der Sauvignon Blanc gepaart mit 30% Sémillon hat zumindest eine komplexitätssteigernde Wirkung! Neben Noten von Mandarinenschalen offenbart der Wein Düfte von Mandeln, Jasminblüten, Maiglöckchen und einen Hauch von Eisenkraut. Am Gaumen gelingt dem Wein eine Symbiose aus Fülle, Frische, Charme und Bitterkeit. Alles scheint mir gut ausbalanciert, alles ist stimmig und alles ist da, um, wenn nötig, daran zu erinnern, dass die Domaine de Chevalier einen der besten Weißweine von Bordeaux produziert!

Natürlich war ich nach dem ausgezeichneten Rotwein von Domaine de Chevalier auf den Weissen gespannt. Dieser zeigt einen bezaubernden Duft, reife Frucht, zitrisch geprägt, auch Litschi und Papaya schwingen mit, darüber eine zarte Vanillenote, nicht aufdringlich, sondern super anregend. Im Gaumen mit Cremigkeit und Schmelz, top Struktur, sensationelle Frucht, das ist knackig, frisch zeigt eine grosse, aromatische Komplexität und viel Länge. Le Sauvignon Blanc couplé à 30% de Sémillon a pour le moins un effet complexifiant ! Outre des notes d'écorces de mandarine, le vin révèle des parfums d'amandes, de fleurs de jasmin et de muguet sans oublier, évidemment, une touche de verveine. En bouche, le vin gère la symbiose entre ampleur, fraîcheur, charme et amertume. Tout me semble bien calé, tout est cohérent et tout est là pour rappeler, si besoin est, que le domaine de Chevalier produit un des meilleurs vins blancs secs de Bordeaux !

Blasses Gelb. Intensive, vom Sauvignon geprägte Nase, exotische Früchte, Pfirsich, rauchige Noten, darüber florale Töne, unterlegt von einer steinig kühlen Mineralik. Im Gaumen cremig und weich im Auftakt, packt dann zu, top Struktur, feine Säure, das Holz ist sehr gut verpackt, ungemein druckvoll und mit enorm viel Länge hallt der Wein auf Passionsfrucht und Limetten nach, hinterlässt ein salziges Finale. Helles Grüngelb. Komplexes, filigranes Bouquet mit Mirabellen, Zitrusfrüchten und Gebäckaromen. Eleganter, angenehmer Auftakt. Der Wein ist leicht cremig und mit einer guten Struktur versehen. Im Gaumen mit Druck, Struktur und Körper, die Säure ist lebendig, stützt die knackige Frucht, hat Zug und Frische, im Abgang sehr lang und würzig. Jaune doré clair aux légers reflets verts. Bouquet complexe, filigrane, révélant des notes de mirabelles et de biscuits. Notes d'agrumes. Mise en bouche élégante, agréable. Le vin est légèrement crémeux et doté d'une bonne structure en fin de bouche. Cette dernière soutient l'expression aromatique et la longueur de la finale.
