The history of the Château Léoville-Barton begins ten generations ago! Thomas Barton arrived in Bordeaux from his native Ireland at the age of 27 to trade with France. A few years later he founded his first wine trading company, which became a veritable dynasty, being handed down from father to son to the present day. Indeed, his grandson Hugh inherited it in 1786 and made it prosper until the French Revolution. In 1793, Hugh and his wife had to flee to Ireland, but they returned and in 1821 acquired Château Langoa-Barton, and then in 1826 a parcel of the Léoville estate which was to become Léoville-Barton.
Château Léoville-Barton, heavy with this family history, represents the high nobility and classicism of the Médoc. Its vines are more than 40 years old and offer concentration and richness to the grapes. The winemaking process is of course still very traditional, but benefits from the advantages of modernity. Balance, depth and superb ageing potential make it one of the most sought-after wines in Saint-Julien...And yet, its reputation also comes from the fact that the Barton family has always known how to keep prices more than reasonable.
On the banks of the Gironde, resting on its 47 hectares of clayey gravel, Château Léoville-Barton has been producing a wine whose quality has not diminished over the last twenty years, while maintaining the same pricing policy. For more than two hundred years, the Barton family has cultivated this exceptional land with care and passion. Château Léoville-Barton offers wine lovers a gourmet wine, bursting in the mouth, which becomes more and more flattering with the years. Crème de cassis coats the palate and the scents of lavender and white flowers seduce, for a finish all in aromas of chocolate and liquorice.
