"Searching for the new Sassicaia" (Decanter)
The famous wine magazine Decanter presents a feature article on the Tuscan coast. It lists 10 rising stars, destined to become the Sassicaia of the future. Alongside the Serre Nuove d'Ornellaia, discover the Carandelle cuvée (100% Sangiovese) from the Podere San Cristoforo! Lorenzo Zonin is the young passionate winemaker we discovered and who leads a viticulture respectful of nature, according to the principles of biodynamic viticulture. His wines are deep and modern, but above all his prices are very reasonable !"Podere San Cristoforo is one of the most prominent young properties in the Maremma region. Owner Lorenzo Zonin is finding his bearings with these very promising wines." The Wine Advocate - August 2011
The first time I called the Podere San Cristoforo, I was very surprised to hear Lorenzo Zonin, the owner, answer the phone, while he was in the middle of the harvest. The explanation was this: "We harvest at night, in order to pick even fresher grapes. ». This little anecdote shows how important attention to detail is to Lorenzo Zonin!
The property of this young and dynamic winegrower extends over 15 hectares of biodynamically cultivated vineyards. The vines are located in the Tuscan region of Maremma, close to the sea. This beautiful property is fortunate to benefit from a steady wind from the nearby sea. These winds help to mitigate the high heat during the summer, in order to obtain wines with a very balanced maturity.
