Petit Figeac – The Second Wine of the Legendary Château Figeac

Petit Figeac is the prestigious second wine of Château Figeac, Premier Grand Cru Classé A of Saint-Émilion. Crafted with the same high standards as the Grand Vin, it offers a more accessible interpretation of Figeac’s unique style, combining elegance, freshness and depth. For lovers of fine Bordeaux wines, Petit Figeac represents one of the finest introductions to the world of this legendary estate.

Château Figeac – An Icon of Saint-Émilion

Located west of Saint-Émilion, Château Figeac is one of the most prestigious estates in Bordeaux. With around 40 hectares of vineyards surrounded by woodland, meadows and ponds, it owns the largest single vineyard property in the Saint-Émilion appellation. Its exceptional terroir is based on three hillsides of Günzian gravel soils, a rare geological feature that gives the wines their remarkable finesse and outstanding ageing potential.

The grape varieties planted at Figeac are unique in Saint-Émilion: approximately 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot. This exceptional proportion of Cabernet varieties gives Petit Figeac its elegant personality, aromatic freshness and structure comparable to the greatest Bordeaux wines.

The History of an Exceptional Estate

The history of Château Figeac dates back to Roman times, when the site was probably occupied by a Gallo-Roman villa belonging to the Figeacus family. Over the centuries, the estate passed through the hands of several prestigious families before being acquired in 1892 by the Manoncourt family, who would profoundly shape its destiny.

Under the leadership of Thierry Manoncourt, known as the “Pharaoh of Saint-Émilion”, Figeac achieved worldwide recognition. A visionary figure, he modernised the facilities, enhanced the identity of the unique terroir and refined vineyard practices while preserving the natural biodiversity of the estate. His dedication led Château Figeac to become one of the greatest names of Saint-Émilion and to receive the highest distinction of Premier Grand Cru Classé A.

Petit Figeac – The Expression of Bordeaux Elegance

Produced mainly from the younger vines of the estate and crafted with the same demanding standards as the Grand Vin, Petit Figeac benefits from rigorous grape selection, precise winemaking and careful ageing.

It displays a deep, brilliant colour and a refined bouquet of blackcurrant, black cherry, blackberry, violet and graphite, complemented by elegant notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, spices and forest floor. On the palate, Petit Figeac reveals a harmonious balance, silky tannins, the characteristic freshness of the estate and a long, elegant finish.

More approachable in its youth than the Grand Vin, it nevertheless offers excellent ageing potential of 10 to 20 years depending on the vintage.

Food Pairings with Petit Figeac

Thanks to its elegance and finesse, Petit Figeac is the perfect partner for a wide range of dishes:

  • beef fillet and grilled red meats
  • roast lamb
  • duck breast
  • game birds
  • porcini mushrooms and other mushroom dishes
  • mature cheeses.

Served between 16 and 17 °C after a short period of aeration, Petit Figeac reveals the full finesse of its terroir and the elegance that has built the reputation of Château Figeac.

Why Choose Petit Figeac?

Petit Figeac offers an exceptional opportunity to discover the style of Château Figeac at a more accessible price than the Grand Vin. It benefits from the same demanding vineyard practices, the same technical teams and the same winemaking philosophy, guaranteeing outstanding quality with every vintage.

Sought after by wine lovers and collectors alike, Petit Figeac is now considered one of the finest second wines in Bordeaux and an essential reference from Saint-Émilion.

Petit Figeac 2019
