Clos du Jas – The New Rayas of Châteauneuf-du-Pape

In the highly exclusive world of the great wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, only a handful of estates become absolute benchmarks. Today, many connoisseurs regard Clos du Jas as one of the most promising domaines of the Southern Rhône — an estate whose singular style immediately evokes the legendary Château Rayas.

This 5-hectare family-owned estate is farmed under certified organic agriculture. Clos du Jas produces wines in AOP Châteauneuf-du-Pape and AOP Lirac with a clear philosophy: to privilege finesse, purity, and the most delicate expression of Grenache.

Why Is Clos du Jas Compared to Rayas?

The comparison with Rayas is no coincidence. Like this iconic estate, Clos du Jas seeks elegance over power, subtlety over extraction.

  • Captivating aromas of crushed strawberries and fresh red fruits
  • Airy, silky texture
  • Remarkable natural freshness
  • Masterful balance and lingering mineral finish

These wines astonish with their ability to combine concentration and delicacy, depth and grace. Like the mythical bottles of the Southern Rhône, they evolve slowly and gain complexity over the course of hours.

Century-Old Vines and Extremely Low Yields

The vineyard of Clos du Jas is built upon an exceptional plant heritage: vines averaging 70 years of age, with some exceeding 100 years.

Yields are intentionally kept extremely low, at around 15 hectoliters per hectare. This natural rarity gives the wines remarkable aromatic intensity and depth.

All vineyard work is carried out entirely by hand, in accordance with the lunar calendar. Plowing is performed through a complementary partnership between man and horse — an artisanal approach reminiscent of the practices of the most legendary estates.

Long Vinifications, 24 to 36 Months of Aging

Faithful to an uncompromising vision, Grégory Sergent, a former military officer turned passionate winemaker, favors gentle and very long vinifications.

Aging lasts between 24 and 36 months, allowing the wine to develop rare finesse and minerality. The objective is not power for its own sake, but precision and transparency of terroir.

A Unique Style, A Highly Sought-After Rarity

Like the greatest wines of the Rhône, the wines of Clos du Jas benefit from being opened 24 hours before tasting. This extended aeration reveals their full complexity: vibrant red fruits, floral notes, delicate spices, and a persistent mineral backbone.

Confidential production, artisanal philosophy, distinctive personality: Clos du Jas now stands as one of the most captivating estates for enthusiasts seeking the “new Rayas.”

Clos du Jas embodies the new generation of great Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines: elegance, purity, and rarity. An estate to watch very closely.

2028-2047 96/100 yvesbeck.wine
