Château Rauzan-Ségla is situated in the south of the Médoc, a few steps from the village of Margaux. On the edge of the estuary, the vines comb the gravelly landscape on a bed of clay that makes the initiates of the whole world dream. Great terroirs pampered for more than 350 years, and brought to light by the CHANEL house when it was acquired in 1994. Restructuring of the vineyard and cellars, selection and vinification of parcels, renovation of the family home, long works have been carried out to sublimate this historic property. The wines, imbued with the elegance and sophistication of Margala, are of infinite finesse. A unique balance where the power is adorned with delicacy to withstand the years.
THE VINEYARD
The 70 hectares of the Rauzan-Ségla vineyard, planted with the four Bordeaux grape varieties, cover the geological and pedological diversity of the Margaux appellation and are a proud reflection of it. The heart of the vineyard is situated around the château, very close to the village of Margaux, on the famous Terrace 4, a wide strip of gravel embedded in a thin layer of clay. A poor, naturally drained soil that favours the deep rooting of the plant. From these historic vines, the oldest in general, come the fruits with which the Grand Vin is made. Around this heart gravitate pieces of vines which are as many satellites, on soils of different nature. From this patchwork is born the Ségla wine.
Depending on the mineral nature and the hydric behaviour of a plot of land, a grape variety is cultivated preferably. The viticultural work is adapted to each vine stock, in each plot. When the time comes, the pickers move up the rows to pick extremely precise batches, sharing a maturity identity.

WINEMAKING
A double manual sorting ensures the link between the harvest and the work in the winery, at the bunch stage and then at the berry stage. The vats are then filled by simple gravity. It is necessary to multiply the work and the number of vats to respect the degree of precision achieved in the vineyard. The duration of maceration, temperatures and pumping over are adapted to the profile of each vat, according to the tastings. Extraction is gentle to preserve a delicate and elegant fruit.
THE BREEDING
For 18 months, the winery team carefully accompanies the newborn baby. These kind and regular gestures are renewed every year. Housed in French oak barrels, the wine asserts itself and gains in complexity.
Every three months, the wine is racked by candlelight. A gentle and ancestral clarification which is carried out by simple gravity. At the end of the ageing process, the right amount of egg whites will carry the last particles to the bottom of each barrel, thus completing the clarification of the wine. The last racking reveals a perfectly clear and limpid wine, the accomplishment of a year and a half of care.

Je ne regrette pas mon achat. Commandé en magnum, c'est un très bon rapport qualité/prix. A mon avis le millésime 2015 est encore trop jeûne aujourd'hui (2020). Même s'il est très agréable en bouche et reste sur le fruit, il lui manque encore l'amplitude pour être apprécié à sa juste valeur.
