The magazine "Bourgogne aujourd'hui" publishes in its edition no 109 its list of the best Burgundian winegrowers. The Bret Brothers are in first place with the mention "Winemakers of the year". Congratulations to the Bret Brothers for this more than deserved distinction !
For the record, Chardonnay is the name of a small village in southern Burgundy which gave its name to the eponymous grape variety. The word Chardonnay has as root the Latin word 'cardus' which means 'thistle' which is one of the plants frequently found on calcareous soils. The grapes are harvested by hand and come from old Chardonnay vines between 35 and 80 years old. This beautiful terroir of the Mâconnais offers fresh wines, with a lot of tension and fruit.
As with all other Bret Brothers wines, the grapes are hand-picked by us, whole bunch pressing, alcoholic fermentation in Burgundy pieces with indigenous yeasts. Aged for 11 months then bottled by us during August.
