"Cécile Dusserre brilliantly leads a vineyard with rigorous vineyard management. For several vintages already, she has shown great maturity and finesse of analysis in her vinification and maturing. Even if everything is done in the vineyard, it is really in the cellar that Cécile has been able to make decisive choices: more infusion and less extraction, judicious woods as well as adapted maturations give wines of great character finally bringing out the long-awaited breed of vacqueyras! This is one of its best representatives. " Guide des vins Bettane & Desseauve 2020
The Vacqueyras appellation is located in the south of the Rhône Valley, in the Vaucluse. As in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the appellation has a plateau from the ice age where the rolled pebbles are surrounded by red clay. Also similar to Gigondas, the terroir of Vacqueyras is also found on tertiary schist and clay soils on the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail.
The three kings grape varieties of Vacqueyras are Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Domaine de Montvac uses 60%, 30% and 10% of them respectively in its blend. Vacqueyras' red wines reach maturity between 2 and 4 years after the harvest, but can improve for another 5 to 7 years, or even more, depending on the vintage. These wines accompany spicy white meats, roasted red meats, as well as many meats in sauce.
